2. Make It Legal (Without the Fuss)

One of the best things about eloping is how simple it can be. Forget the overwhelming wedding planning and guest list stress—getting legally married in New Zealand is refreshingly easy. Here’s what you need to make it official:

• Marriage Licence – Apply online through the New Zealand government website at least three working days before your elopement. The application is straightforward, and once approved, you’ll receive your licence to make it all legal.
• Registered Celebrant – You’ll need a celebrant to officiate your ceremony. Many celebrants specialise in elopements and can help craft a ceremony that reflects your love story, whether you want traditional vows, a heartfelt exchange, or something totally unique.
• Two Witnesses – If you’re eloping solo, don’t worry! Your photographer and videographer can legally be your witnesses. It’s a common practice, and we’re more than happy to be part of your special moment.
• Customising Your Ceremony – Because elopements are all about you, there are no rules. You can incorporate personal touches like handwritten vows, a champagne toast, or even a post-ceremony picnic under the stars. It’s your day, your way!
